I honestly have hardly listened to this record - I prefer the first Bad Brains “ROIR” tape, or “I Against I” - and my copy sounds like tinny, sped-up garbage with little to no low-end - apparently a product of an ill-fated early 90’s Caroline Records reissue / remaster. This copy seems like it may have been something that was bootlegged from these bad mixes and they put the original record company on the sleeve and label. Apparently there’s a 2021 repress is the one to get, aside from the original. This one is bad.
Mix issues aside, this record does not hold up against the original ROIR release to me. It sounds sterile, forced, overproduced. Any of the tracks here that appeared on ROIR are lacking a certain intangible energy, although Banned in DC comes close to the original. All of this to say I don’t own a vinyl copy of ROIR, or the later I Against I or Quickness, but I do have this abomination.
