To break from their own stereotypes, Cibo Matto put out a 2xLP full of everything from pretty bad hip hop (“Working for Vacation”, “Sci-Fi Wasabi”) to sweet serenades (“Moonchild”, not an Iron Maiden cover) to a doom metal song (“Blue Train”) to downtempo 90’s trip hop junk. Overall the vibe is light and even annoyingly quirky / kistchy and obscure at times. It’s a bit hard to tell whether they are genuine or it’s an ironic hipster inside joke at times, but the musical and vocal talent is there (although maybe not the flow). This double album is too long, but is good for a once in a decade spin as background tunes.
