DanzigDanzig II: Lucifuge

I’m not sure how I’d classify this album; Danzig gets lumped into Metal, but I don’t think it is. I suppose this is like punk & blues-influenced hard rock? Horny blues metal? IDK. The Side A is kind of untouchable, with impeccable arrangement. This opens up with the fast Long Way Back From Hell that then just turns into the groovy Snakes of Christ seamlessly (which sounds suspiciously like Twist of Cain), then slows it down even more with Killer Wolf which is the most bluesy one so far, then it cumulates with Tired of Being Alive, my favorite track on this record. I’m The One really ramps up the bluesiness with some impressive riffing and followed up by Side A’s closer, a close favorite contender with the catchy Her Black Wings. Side B opens strongly with Devi’s Plaything, featuring some pretty great fills from Chuck Biscuits - but there’s a couple duds in the mix (namely, Blood & Tears, which sounds like a cast off from a 50s high school dance to me), but overall this is a classic that delivers, from the catchy riffs and powerful pipes of Glenn - even if he is a giant douche.

The LP version has the cover with the band’s moody portraits, while the CD version has Danzig’s sexy hairy chest on the front. I have to flip the cover to see that. Mine has a cheap paper lyric sleeve, and a promotional stamp on the front. The CD version has a sweet inverted cross insert.
