Another great record that came out this year, from ZORN! Channeling filthy punk metal into its purest form, this Philly rager scratches a particular itch for me - early Slayer, Bathory, Venom make their mark here, along with hints of GISM or Zouo - with tortured vocals on top of the impressive riffing and soloing. It's punk, it's metal, it's Zorn: catchy, dirty, evil, but somehow fun at the same time - music to bang your head to with a smile on your face and a cold one in your hand. Don't miss the Annihilation Time cover at the end. My only complaint is that the record is quite short, it's more like a mini-LP.
Seeing them live is a treat, the singer is brought to stage in a coffin and pops out as the intro gets going - later on at the show, giant foam weapons were unleashed on the crowd. Normally I hate this gimmicky kinda shit but these guys are great.
