A recent pick up in the B department, a new release and this one is great. My powerviolence acumen and knowledge is fairly shallow, but my take is if you can take the breakneck blastbeats and transition seamlessly to a plodding, slower-than-molasses dirge then you’ve got the formula - but it’s gotta have some melody, man! During the slow parts, the band does not shy away from some groove, or Iommi-inspired trills, bouncing bass lines and even some funky jazzy weirdness here and there. More than just a heavy mosh part, it’s more like stoner-violence.
I particularly love side B because the entire thing is just one ten-min song with several parts, each of which is just excellent. It reminds me of the Mind Eraser “Conscious Unconscious” record, which did something similar - but for I know this is a power violence trope; told you I didn’t know shit! Either way I am here for it.
