I’m back baby! And I’m not really sure what genre this record is, but it’s kinda gothy, kinda dreamy, kinda new wavy - at times creepy, other times poppy, but always with a purple shroud of darkness surrounding it. While you’d expect this to be all synth and drum machine all the time - and it is - the finger-picked, reverby guitar is what makes this great - clear influences from the Cure, Siouxsie, Cocteau Twins, etc.
The release is a gloomy concept album in homage to Heaven’s Gate; if you watched the Heavens Gate miniseries on HBO Max from a few years ago, you’ll be sufficiently primed for all the references in this record to the group.
Overall this is a good record with a few weak points.
