Release from Agony

I guess I grouped this with the Crow records because I like Crow more, and was attempting to be a completionism at one point. The Crow side of this split covers Blind Destruction by Crucifix for the opener - the insert even includes a riff on the Crucifix’s s/t LP front cover. Second song is an original - Hate God, Hate War - capturing that signature Tokyo-era Crow metallic / crusty sound with a ripping solo. Great song.

Artimus Pyle side starts with one of those classic punk intros with a rant over some building drums and noise before driving into breakneck. There has to be a word for that trope, but I dunno what it is. The first two songs are over before you know it, but the last song song, “Buried Alive” is the standout on this side. It’s a heavy, dirty dirge with a creepy melodic outro and really good, a bit more palatable to me than the fast blurs of the first two songs.

I’ve got an original Japanese pressing which includes a tour report from Crow’s 2000 US tour, and 2 copies of Prank’s US repressing, one on white and one on black vinyl.
