混沌神 / God of Chaos

The title translates to “God of Chaos” or Konton-shin. This early era of “Tokyo Crow” around the “Door of the End” 12” is really something else - that 3 song 12” and this 3 song 7” came out the same year, and have a similar production quality, sound and song style. Still not quite enough for an LP I suppose. This EP marks first version of God of Chaos / Death of Nuclear Arms, a less polished version that would later appear on Bloody Tear. It’s one of my favorite Crow songs, owing to its meloncholy “Death of Nuclear Arms” introduction, which of course, eventually leaps into relentless pounding thrash. Side B has two more good songs, but the title track is really the one here. The artwork is superb, featuring flowing ink work, where Japanese calligraphy seamlessly morphs into a crow shape, which looks a bit like the flames of a phoenix to me.

I am fortunate to have three editions of this record, including a silkscreened cloth cover, numbered #33 / 44. Apparently there’s a rarer one with blue silkscreen but I doubt I’ll ever get my mitts on that.
